Economist and public policy expert M Masrur Reaz is not taking charge as the chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
He informed the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance of his decision.
Masrur Reaz in a statement to the media on Saturday said that he wants continue working as an economist.
"But I think under the current circumstances, I`ll be able to contribute more to the country and the economy as an economist. In my current role, I`ll be able to devise efficient economic policies and reform the existing economic structure by analysing trade, investments and financial sector and arrange dialogues on these matters. That`s why I`ve taken the decision not to assume the role of BSEC chairman," he added.
The interim government on August 13 appointed him to the post for the next four years. The post had been vacant since former BSEC chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-ul Islam resigned five days after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 6.
